The 50 Safest Places to Live in Connecticut

Connecticut may be the third-smallest state by area but it boasts some big achievements. For instance, the state is home to literary geniuses like Mark Twain, William F. Buckley Jr., Candace Bushnell, Suzanne Collins, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Arthur Miller and Maurice Sendak. It boasts an endless array of quint villages, scenic beaches and great seafood. It is home to the number 1 wooden roller coaster in the world. And according to a study by the American Human Development Index, the Constitution State is the best state to live in and citizens are generally happier than those of any other states. Factors That Influence Commercial CCTV Installation Costs

When it comes to your business, security should be one of your top priorities. While we want to say that price should not be an issue, we understand that that is unrealistic; for small to mid-sized businesses, price is always going to be play a factor. However, whatever your budget looks like, you should allocate a significant portion of it to security measures. But how much, exactly, are we talking here?

Recreational and Non-Recreational Drones Are Becoming Increasingly Popular, But Are Cities Ready?

Ever since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, city officials have been working on a way to ensure the safety of participants, observers and event volunteers and employees alike. They may have found their answer in the form of drones, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This past April, the city employed drones with high definition cameras to float above the event and keep a proverbial eye out for threats. Though ground video cameras in place during the 2013 marathon were able to help authorities correctly identify the Tsarnaev brothers, the point of the drones, according to Hank Shaw of the Boston FBI, is to identify a threat before it happens.

Talking CCTV – Communicate With Surveillance Monitored Sites From Anywhere With Internet Access

Imagine if you could tell a vandal to stop what he was doing when he was in the middle of vandalizing your property…or imagine if you could tell a thief to drop your possessions without actually being in the same room with them. Well, with Talking CCTV technology, you no longer have to imagine such things—you can actually do it. Talking CCTV technology was first put to use in 2003, in Wiltshire, UK, and was intended to stop subjects from littering or to order vandals to disperse. 21 areas throughout the UK immediately followed Wiltshire’s lead, with mayors promising to implement Talking CCTV technology to clean up the streets. While the technology was designed to clean up the streets and enhance residents’ safety, it has been met with a mix of criticism and approval.

Video Content Analysis: What is it and How is it Changing the Face of CCTV?

Video content analysis, or VCA for short, refers to a camera’s ability to automatically analyze video footage to determine temporal and spatial events. Essentially, the technology does the work of a human operator and can detect when things are amiss in any way.

High Tech Security Systems to be Installed on Busy Transit Systems in Boston

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, 2015 saw a 7% increase in crime on city buses and railways. These crimes include theft, larceny, homicide, rape and assault, aggravated assault, robbery, auto theft and burglary. The only crime that decreased in occurrence was arson. The people of MA are tax paying citizens, and as such, deserve safer passage on their journeys. Whether they are commuters trying to get to and from work safely or they are infrequent city transportation users who just want a relaxing night out, they deserve adequate protection from criminals.   Massachusetts’ Proposed Solution In answer to the spike in crime on city subways and buses, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has begun to install security camera systems on each of its 225 buses, one step of many in its attempt to overhaul the lackadaisical surveillance system. The system includes monitors on which the passengers can view live footage of what is being recorded. Camera installation is funded by a $6.9 million grant, which was awarded in 2010, from the Department of Homeland Security.   The cameras and monitors on this new system will allow passengers to see what is going on in the driver’s cab by streaming live footage to monitors placed within the passenger compartment of buses and subway cars. The footage will also stream directly to monitors at the department’s dispatch center. If necessary, the footage can be recorded and stored for later use as an aid in criminal prosecution.   At least 225 of the city’s buses will be completely furnished with this new and improved surveillance system […]

Danbury Joins the Ranks of Cities That Have Implemented Public Surveillance

In an age when video surveillance technology is commonplace in every household, bank, police station and public space throughout America – and in a time when terrorist attacks are so commonplace citizens fear for their lives whenever they attend a big event – it makes sense to line the streets with video cameras, doesn’t it? At least, that’s what many city officials and law enforcement agencies believe, as do many U.S. citizens. As of this year, several municipalities have already implemented a system in which video surveillance footage from local businesses and residents goes directly to police station monitors. Others have implemented a system in which thousands of public cameras are installed out in the open and monitored by police officers in one centralized location. No matter what the setup looks like though, residents are left wondering: how much surveillance is too much surveillance?

The Basics of Audio Recorded With CCTV Security Cameras

When an employee spots a camera in the workplace, or even when a shopper spots a camera in a retail store, the first thing they want to know is if it can record sound. In short, the answer is yes, CCTV camera systems are designed to record audio in conjunction with images. However, whether or not an employer or a retail location is allowed to record audio is another matter entirely. Additionally, the type of cameras doing the recording – whether IP or Analog – dictates how the audio is captured. This post gives a brief overview of how audio is captured by CCTV security cameras, as well as a run down of the basic privacy rights that employers and retail locations alike must abide by when using surveillance systems to monitor employees.   Security Cameras in the Workplace Many employers will have security cameras installed to prevent theft and to ensure that employees are making good use of their paid-for time. This is perfectly acceptable so long as the employer informs employees that they are being recorded. However, there are some instances in which it is illegal for employers to record their workers. For instance, union workers may never be monitored by a camera system. States laws vary on where and how employees can be recorded, but all agree that private settings, such as restrooms, the break room and other areas where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, are off limits. And Federal law dictates that the recording of oral communication in the workplace is strictly prohibited.   How Employers Can Use Video Surveillance […]

Bank Robberies Happen More Often Than You Think… Is Your Money Safe?

There are several action movies each year whose main premise is bank robbery, and in each movie, the first thing the bad guys do is take out the security cameras. While movies almost always stray from real life, it’s safe to say that not that long ago, security surveillance systems were underwhelming in their capabilities compared to today’s technology, and that if someone could get past a bank’s security guards, it wouldn’t be difficult to take out the security system and ensure that no one ever saw their face. Today, however, that is not the case.

Bridgeport Recreation Complex Boosts Security Measures With New High Resolution Security Cameras

Bridgeport Recreation Complex is upgrading its security camera systems, and though city officials claim that there isn’t a whole rash of crime occurring at the park, they are tired of dealing with low quality images when crimes do occur. For instance, the complex has seen its fair share of hit and runs, and the owners of the hit vehicle are becoming frustrated by the fact that the complex’s security cameras are unable to help them identify the perpetrator. And for petty theft, bullying or other instances of violence that do occur, it would be nice for parents to be able to confidently tell their children that the bad guys will get caught.

Danbury Schools Spend Millions of Dollars on Increased Security After Sandy Hook

Danbury Schools Spend Nearly $1,100,000 on Security Upgrades

Danbury is a fairly large school district, with 17 schools in total. Though upgrades were costly—totaling more than $450,000—the upgrades were well worth it and a significant improvement on the district’s existing safety measures. Some upgrades implemented by the district include tighter door locks, additional security cameras, panic buttons throughout the classrooms and tougher-to-access external entrances.

Stamford Takes Additional Measures to Boost Security in Public Parks

Crime rates in city parks have soared in recent decades, and range in seriousness from theft to assault to murder. Most people seek out the sanctuary of public parks to exercise, spend time with their families, be one with nature and simply relax. However, with crime rates on a seemingly endless incline, more and more people are shying away from the beauty of nature and opting to socialize in coffee shops, at friends’ homes and in other safe, indoor spaces. While this is great for the economy, it is not so great for consumer peace of mind or well-being. People need nature and fresh air, and in a world where sky rises and condominiums are being built left and right, public parks are some of the last spaces where people can get back to their roots and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer.   Stamford city officials have realized the negative impact that soaring crime rates is having on the emotional and physical health of Stamford residents, not to mention their peace of mind. Because of this, they are taking additional measures to ensure the safety of park visitors and city residents alike. One of those measures is installing Blue Light Emergency Phones and Cameras throughout public parks.   Emergency Phones and Additional Cameras Aim to Keep Residents Safe Last April, Stamford’s Public Safety Camera Review Committee voted to install Blue Light Emergency Phones and Cameras throughout Hatch Field Park and seven other public parks, including Lione, Cummings, Mill River, Scalzi, Veterans and Cove Island parks. This was a huge step for the […]
